The Complete Report may be viewed at the offices of the RPC and the main library of each of RPC's member parishes (Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and St. Tammany).

About the Study: The Metairie CBD Land Use and Transportation Study was a joint planning effort of Jefferson Parish and the Regional Planning Commission. This study was part of a regional initiative to gather data on existing land use and to project future land use for analysis in a Geographic Information System (GIS). Land use transportation studies are developed to relate Parish Comprehensive Plans and related developing land use to the transportation system. The land use transportation study process brings together local parish planning directors, major public and private agency staff, and community groups for the purpose of synthesizing existing and projected land use data.

Data was collected in the field at the parcel level and joined with existing base map data supplied by Jefferson Parish. The American Planning Association Land-Based Classification Standards was used to establish land use categories on individual parcels and structures in the Metairie CBD. A real estate and development market study by Herbert/Smolkin Associates of Louisiana, transportation data, aerial photography, a steering committee appointed by the Jefferson Parish Government, and a series of public meetings contributed to a comprehensive effort in capturing the present conditions and future prospects of the area. The Metairie CBD Study was a pilot project using a data collection process that the RPC intends to refine and coordinate region-wide. (Excerpted by RPC Staff: PD)
