East-West Corridor Environmental Impact Study

A Project of the
Regional Planning Commission
and the Louisiana Department of
Transportation and Development

The East-West Corridor Environmental Impact Study (EIS) was initiated by the Regional Planning Commission in their responsibilities to identify and resolve current and future transportation problems in the New Orleans metropolitan area. The primary purpose of the EIS is to provide the Regional Planning Commission’s Transportation Policy Committee with the information necessary to ascertain which alternative should be adopted and included in the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, New Orleans Urbanized Area, Fiscal Year 2032.

The Regional Planning Commission, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, is conducting an extensive evaluation of the transportation issues in a corridor generally described as the corridor between the vicinity of the Central Business District and the vicinity of I-310. It is called the East-West Corridor EIS because it describes the linear character of the area to be studied, the transportation focus, and the kind of study be conducted—an Environmental Impact Statement, or, EIS.

The Regional Planning Commission, as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the New Orleans region, is charged with conducting transportation planning for the New Orleans urbanized area. This study will help determine how to address congestion and mobility on Earhart Expressway, Airline Drive, Interstate-10 and related feeder-roadways over the next 20 to 30 years.
