This committee includes members of the RPC and one representative each from the City of Slidell and St. Charles Parish, and, from each of the various transportation modes: port, aviation, passenger rail, freight rail, trucking and transit. The committee is responsible for the selection of transportation projects for federal funding assistance and implementation in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Ben O. Morris,
Mayor, City of Slidell The Southeast Louisiana Rail Committee was established in the summer of 1998 to comprehensively evaluate railroad projects and to develop a strategic policy for dealing with rail issues in the New Orleans region. The committee includes over eighty members representing a broad spectrum of organizations and individuals with rail interests. The committee is
organized into four subcommittees: Freight Rail, High Speed Rail, Inter-city Rail (Baton Rouge to New Orleans) and Intra-city Rail (New
Orleans central business district to the Louis Armstrong New Oreans
International Airport). Each subcommittee is
charged with identifying project priorities. The committee as a whole
then merges the individual projects into a regional rail program incorporating
broad goals and a vision for the metro area.
