Submerged Roads

The South Louisiana Submerged Roads Program is a comprehensive effort to repair and resurface roads damaged as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The program began in July 2007 at the recommendation of the Regional Planning Commission and the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development to the Federal Highway Administration. The program is funded 100 percent by Emergency Relief Program of the Federal Highway Administration.

Phase A of the program, which focuses on the restoration of local arterial streets, invests more than $100 million in repairs. This program is designed exclusively for the Greater New Orleans, five parish area, which includes: Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, and St. Tammany parishes. The roads were chosen based on the Federal Highway Administration's Damage Inspection Reports. The program currently includes approximately 50 projects in Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard parishes. Additional state routes are being restored by LaDOTD throughout the region in Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Charles and St. Tammany parishes.
