St. Tammany Parish Comprehensive Pedestrian & Bicycle Plan

Project Background

The St. Tammany Parish Government, in collaboration with the Regional Planning Commission and local stakeholders, is developing a Comprehensive Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan to enhance the community’s pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure. This initiative aims to identify gaps in the parish’s transportation network and assess land use, recreational facilities, and barriers to access while prioritizing resident input. Through workshops, surveys, and pop-up events, the project team will gather community feedback on preferred routes and improvements, ensuring that the final recommendations reflect the needs of our residents.

The Comprehensive Plan will propose an interconnected network of on- and off-street active transportation facilities, complete with cost estimates for each project. The project team will prioritize initiatives based on community impact and identify potential funding sources for implementation. By integrating community insights and adhering to federal engagement requirements, the St. Tammany Parish Comprehensive Pedestrian & Bicycle Plan aims to create a sustainable, connected, and accessible transportation system for current and future residents.

Project Timeline

Public Involvement

Public input will directly guide plan recommendations and prioritized improvements of pedestrian and bicycle facilities in St. Tammany Parish. Residents and visitors can provide feedback through a variety of engagement opportunities, such as public workshops, pop-up events, and surveys. Engagement materials will be available in Spanish, and all feedback gathered in person or online will be tracked to ensure that community input shapes the development of the Comprehensive Plan.

PROJECT UPDATES

The project team has gathered valuable community input through surveys, pop-up events, and public workshops. These efforts helped residents, business owners, and stakeholders share ideas for safer, more accessible streets. Based on this feedback, the team has drafted a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian network, intersection treatment recommendations, a parish-wide Complete Streets Policy, and active transportation-focused policy and program recommendations.

A second round of public engagement will take place in July and early August to review and gather feedback on draft plan recommendations. Please review draft plan materials linked below:
